Nicaragua Art Missions

2007-2009

Mission Objective: To take art to the children of Central America and educate where there is no art education available. This includes the Managua city dump, La Chureca, which is the home of 1500 Nicaraguenses, and along the South Pacific regions of Nicaragua to the vast country and poverty stricken lands. Having worked in and having access to over fifteen public schools without art programs, I will be supplying art supplies and education to a vast number of eager children.

My second objective for the year is to open up a cooperative art house in Las Salinas, Nicaragua to educate the children and adults of the community with free art workshops. This will provide a place for the locals to sell their art work. I will also be teaming up with an area resort manager to offer a small cafe in front of the cooperative that will provide a few jobs for the locals to sell their wonderful coffee and baked goods. Therefore, this opportunity will provide a combination of education, art, and employment and trade for the local community. My main goal is to bring joy and color to their world through Art. Giving them the opportunity to learn art education, is a dream that every child deserves.

Mission Time line: July 2007-2009 I will be leaving for Nicaragua by the first week of July 2007. I will be returning to Las Salinas, Nicaragua to my new home and community. I will return to work with my classes in the schools of Las Salinas, Limon, and other surrounding communities. I will be living and working for free in Nicaragua for two years and setting my goals and visions into a reality that will change the lives living there. I believe in equipping the community with trades that will not only build and support their families, but will also give them inspiration and hope for a new and creative future.
